ST. THOMAS DRAGWAY: PMRA and Quick 32 dropped from Diamond Days

For immediate release
Sparta, Ont. - July 7, 2009

Diamond Days this weekend - PMRA and Quick 32 not coming!

A major change has occurred in the format for the Diamond Days presented by Roffelsen Jewellers which will be held this weekend, July 10, 11 and 12 at historic St. Thomas Dragway. The PMRA Pro Mods have been unable to muster the promised 12 cars for the program and as a result Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations for the PMRA, has regrettably decided to cancel rather than bring in fewer cars and thus a lesser show that the fans expect from the PMRA. As the new for 2009 NAPA Quick 32 Sportsman Series is part of the PMRA program they too have cancelled.

They will be replaced by a Pro Comp program with $1,500 to win, $600 runner-up. Cost is $100 for car & driver. As well the spectator admission price drops to $15 per day.

The event kicks off Friday night with the Performance Unlimited Street Legal program and the Quick 8 cars and bikes running for $250 to win in each category. This is for street legal cars and bikes. Mufflers, lights, horn and license plates are required but any tire is allowed. We’ll see who has the quickest license plate(s) in the park!!

Saturday will feature full bracket racing and three qualifiers for the Pro Comp entries. The winners of Top and Mod will run off Saturday night for a $5,000 diamond ring courtesy of Roffelsen Jewellers, Chatham. Sunday will see the final Pro Comp qualifier and Summit Series final eliminations.

With the major sponsorship by Henry Roffelsen of Roffelsen Jewellers, Chatham the prize money totals over $22,500 for the bracket racers as well as reduced entry fees for the racers. Canada Trailers Top and Wiseco Mod will race for $1,500 to win both days, Chandler Technology Street and Borhog Power Sports Bike/Sled run for $1,000 to win both days and the Nothers Junior Dragsters for the first time will run for $500 to win both days. Racer entry fees are reduced for this event to $40 per day for Top and Mod, $30 per day for Street and Bike/Sled and $25 for Junior Dragsters. Spectator admission is now $15 per day, seniors and students $10 per day and kids 12 and under as always no charge with a paid adult admission. Admission for Friday night’s Street Legal program is $10 and Saturday night’s Run What Ya Brung is $10 after 6. Car and driver are $20 to race both Friday and Saturday night.
