Cordeiro report; Guest drivers for Autobahn Country Club Announced‏

THREE GUEST DRIVERS TO COMPETE IN THE VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI CUP RACE AT AUTOBAHN COUNTRY CLUB

The SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup will arrive at the mid point of its season at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois on July 25 and 26. During the race weekend, the series’ 25 regular drivers will be joined by three guest drivers who will be participating alongside them in all of the weekend’s activities beginning with practice on Saturday, July 25 at 10:30 am CT and concluding with the race on Sunday, July 26 at 4:55 pm CT.


The list of guest drivers includes Chicago-area Volkswagen dealer and motorsports enthusiast, Richard Fisher; journalist, Jeff Olson; and professional skier, actor and TV journalist, Glen Plake. About the guest drivers:


Richard Fisher – Fisher is a founding member of the Autobahn Country Club and the owner of the Chicago-area Autobarn dealership group. His three Chicagoland VW stores (The Autobarn VW of Evanston, The Autobarn VW of Mt. Prospect and The Autobarn VW of Countryside) sell more new and certified pre-owned Volkswagens than any group in the Midwest. Fisher also is an avid racer in the SCCA ranks where he races his Volkswagen GTI in the T3 class. Last month, he took second place at the June sprints at Road America.


Jeff Olson – Olson is a freelance journalist who covers the IndyCar Series for RACER and Autosport magazines and their websites, www.racer.com and www.autosport.com. He also has contributed to IndyCar magazine, Speed’s website, www.speedtv.com and Sports Illustrated. His career in sports journalism began at the Des Moines Register, where he discovered sprint cars at Knoxville Raceway, which eventually led him to cover the Indianapolis 500. Olson has participated in the Richard Petty Driving Experience and the Bridgestone Racing Academy.


Glen Plake – Plake is the long-time host of Resort Sport Network's Reel Thrills series and a world-class championship skier. Powder magazine called Glenn the Most Influential Skier of the last 35 Years, as he’s considered the father of extreme skiing. He’s appeared in legendary skiing movies including “Blizzard of AaaHhh’s,” “License to Thrill,” “Fistful of Moguls,” and “Steep.” Not confined to the snow, he has also appeared in several Hollywood productions as well as network TV shows. Plake is also an accomplished off-road racer who won the 2000 Baja 2000 (Class 3) race in Mexico.
