Patrick Laperle Looking for Kawartha Speedway ACT Tour Hat Trick this Sunday

Laperle Looking for Kawartha Speedway ACT Tour Hat Trick

Lightning may have struck the same place twice, but Patrick Laperle hopes he continues to hold a hot hand when the American-Canadian Tour late model machines head to Kawartha Speedway for the ACT Summer Sizzler 200 – Sunday, July 12th.  The driver of the Laperle Motorsports Chevrolet – who hails from St-Denis, Quebec – has won the last 2 events at the popular 3/8th mile oval at Fraserville, Ontario using a unique race strategy.  The #91 machine ran the entire 200 lap race distance in both 2007 and 2008 without a pit stop.

Heading into the Kawartha event, Laperle will likely feel like a marked man.  He sits second in the (Quebec based) Castrol Series standings, trailing Donald Theetge by just over 30 points.  On the national tour, Scott Payea of Milton, Vermont enjoys a 32 point advantage over Hudson, New Hampshire’s Joey ‘Pole’ Polewarczyk.  New Hampshire’s Randy Potter and Vermont’s John Donahue are also within sight of the leaders.  Kawartha’s event is the next stop on the national tour.

A number of American-Canadian Tour regulars, including multi-time champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, Vermont list Kawartha Speedway as one of their favourite venues, but the invaders may face some tough competition from the home track favourites.  Cavan, Ontario’s Dan McHattie and teenaged sensation Brandon Watson of Stayner, Ontario have already announced their intentions to protect the hallowed ground against the intruders.  Fans of Friday night shows at Kawartha could also expect to see Cole Powell, Ryan Kimball and Tim Fernandes attempt to crack the starting grid.  Track general manager/promoter Derek Lynch has also filed an entry for the 200 lap affair.

The big prize for ACT runners in 2009 is a trip to the ACT Invitational Saturday, September 19th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  All race winners and each track champion from an ACT sanctioned venue will be guaranteed starters for this prestigious event.

Gates at Kawartha Speedway will open at 8:00 Sunday, July 12th with on track practise sessions beginning at 11:00.  The Better Carpet Thunder Cars, Discount Car & Truck Rental Mini Stocks and Ontario Legends Series racers will also be part of the show.  For complete details, see www.acttour.com or www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

Kawartha Speedway is located at Fraserville, Ontario – near the intersection of highways 28, 7 and the 35/115 – just minutes from Peterborough.
