Canada’s biggest auto racing series heads to the Calabogie long track - July 21, 2009 - Calabogie, OntarioRound six of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires heads to Canada’s longest & widest race track, Calabogie Motorsports Park during the Ted Powell Memorial Race Weekend Presented by The Motorsports Club of Ottawa Over 40 of Canada’s best drivers racing today’s hottest touring cars will compete in two action packed, door handle to door handle 30-minute sprint races amongst some of this countries nicest scenery that you could imagine.

Just back from an impressive double podium showing at the Honda Indy Toronto, Super Touring Class championship points leading driver Greg Pootmans and Touring Class leader Anthony Rapone will attempt to defend their current positions atop the championship standings.

The action at Toronto was intense to say the least and we anticipate the exciting racing will continue on Calabogie’s 5km road course. The championship is still up for grabs and will probably come right down to the last race of the year.

The four car BMW GT Racing team of Paul Dalla Lana, Etienne Borgeat, David Bensadoun & Pootmans will be the one’s to watch for in Super Touring class. The father & son team, Auto Analyzer Racing’s Andy & Andrew Wojteczko racing in their highly competitive Lexus IS 300’s will be hot on their bumpers. Other notable drivers to watch out for is Lombardi Honda’s Nick Wittmer, currently 2nd in the point hunt just 121 points ahead of Wojteczko as he attempts to catch up to Pootmans currently 20 points ahead of him.

MINI Cooper pilot, Alain Lauziere currently 2nd place overall in the Touring Class points standings will be back fending off Quebec driver Nigel Heron and his Acura Integra who suffered a devastating engine failure at Toronto, but hopes to be back in full stride this weekend.

Both Lauziere and Heron will be doing their best to dethrone Rapone who currently holds a 77-point lead over Lauziere and 195 points over Heron this weekend. For further information, check out www.touringcar.ca for the latest championship news.
