NASCAR Canadian Tire Series: Simone puts up a fight for good finish

KAWARTHA, ONTARIO – One thing for sure you can say about Anthony Simone, driver of the No. 95 Crown Modular/United Lumber Monte Carlo, is that he won’t give up. That was clearly demonstrated on Sunday at Kawartha Speedway, site of the Z-Line Designs 250 presented by the Dodge Dealers of Ontario and Coca-Cola. Simone battled back from a lap down to finish seventh, and finish 8th in the championship.

“It’s been a good year for our Crown Modular/United Lumber Monte Carlo,” Simone said. “Today was a tough one going down a lap and getting a penalty.”

Simone’s day started well enough with a solid qualifying effort of 14th, just .4 off the pole. Simone, like the rest of the driver’s wondered what kind of car he would have after the rains finally left. “After the race being postponed last night, it is difficult to know what our car will be like this afternoon,” Simone said before the start of Sunday’s NASCAR Canadian Tire Series finale.

Trouble came early for Simone, when he had to pit, and that got him a lap down. “It was disappointing, but I thought we had a good car, and could make up some ground.” Simone did that and also used pit strategy to his advantage. “The crew did a good job adjusting our strategy, then we got our lap back, and we were in good shape.”

Simone was running a comfortable seventh when the rain came on lap 204, and that was a good reward for a hard day’s work. “It was a tough day for us,” Simone said. “We just didn’t give up today on the Crown Modular/United Lumber Monte Carlo and that paid off with a decent finish. I want to thank all the supporters we had this year, and I am looking to come back strong in 2010.”
