TIM HORTONS CHEVROLET TEAM WORKS HARD

September 27, 2009. The #23 Tim Hortons Chevrolet team with Jeff Lapcevich at the wheel have proven to be one of the hardest working teams on the NACAR Canadian Tire Series circuit. This past Sunday at the final round of the season at Kawartha Speedway they once again showed their resilience and spirit.

During practice the Tim Hortons Chevrolet was among the top-ten in speeds as the team continued to show improvements. “The car felt good” said Jeff Lapcevich “and we were pretty optimistic going into qualifying” he added. Rain sprinkles during the qualifying session would result in a less than desirable sixteenth starting position. Rain intensified after qualifying and the 250 lap feature race was postponed until Sunday.

With showers washing away all the rubber on the track the Tim Hortons Chevrolet was not comfortable on the track, and the team chose to make an early pit stop for adjustments. “We were struggling with a loose race car” said Lapcevich. “We made an early stop for adjustments and that did seem to help us out a bit” he added.

As the race moved through the mid point Lapcevich was battling in and around the top-ten cars and looking to continue his forward progress. This would also prove to be one stretch of the race where some of the roughest driving was taking place by some competitors. The result would be several caution periods in a row and the Tim Hortons Chevrolet being caught up in other driver’s incidents. “There were a few guys that aren’t regulars in this race, and some of them had pretty fast cars and were intent on making an impression” said the driver. “Unfortunately we kind of ended up on the short end of some of those incidents”.

Despite being shuffled back Lapcevich would use all of his skills to push the Tim Hortons Chevrolet back to its rightful place at the front of the field. As the race moved toward lap 200 as Lapcevich was beginning to put on a charge the rain showers returned soaking the track and forcing NASCAR Officials to conclude the event on lap 204 with the Tim Hortons car in thirteenth spot. “It’s really too bad we didn’t get to run those last fifty laps or so. We got shuffled out there on other people’s issues but we gathered it back up and had gained a few spots back and we were moving toward the top-ten when the rain came back. There’s not doubt we would have had another top-ten if we were able to complete the race” summed up the driver.

You can watch the final race of the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series from Kawartha Speedway on Saturday October 17th at 2PM Eastern. Jeff Lapcevich and the Tim Hortons Team would like to thank the many race fans that supported the team once again this season and the many Tim Hortons Camp Day and other charitable endeavors all year long. They look forward to returning in 2010.
