DIRTcar Brockville: Danny O'Brien clinches Brockville Speedway track championship

Danny O’Brien Clinches the Brockville Track Championship...and Doesn’t Have to Turn a Lap

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications

It’s just the kind of year he’s had.  Kingston, Ontario DIRTcar 358 modified driver Danny O’Brien logged 8 trips to Brockville Ontario Speedway’s victory lane in 12 tries.  With the track points race coming to an end following the Saturday, September 5th show – and the Saturday, August 29th event cancelled due to rain – the 41 year-old second generation speedster has wrapped up his 4th consecutive (and 9th overall) track championship at the Southeastern Ontario quarter-mile oval.  While he would’ve much rather clinched the title on the race track, O’Brien admits he has nothing to complain about.

“There are drivers who wait their entire career to have the type of season we did,” said O’Brien with his ever-present smile.  “Having 2 cars in the shop this year was a big help.  It took a ton of pressure off the shoulders of the crew.  In the last few years, we worked pretty late hours to make sure everything was ready to go.  The second car gave us the luxury of taking our time to prepare for each week.  We were lucky to not have any serious wrecks and I’m confident both cars are ready to go for the end of the year Mr. DIRTcar Championship Trail shows.”

O’Brien is also quick to acknowledge the support of his strong fan base and sponsors Global Warranty/1000 Islands RV Centre/Pat’s Radiator/Stover Bus Lines/103.7 BOB-FM/Jackson’s Landscaping & Property Maintenance/Murdock’s Cement Finishing/Kendrick Racing for his excellent 2009 season.

“I’m just the lucky guy who gets to drive the car,” continued O’Brien. “People see me in the victory lane photos, but it’s everything that goes on behind the scenes and in the shop that puts me there.  Who knows what I’d be doing or where I’d be running without such a strong supporting cast.”

Next on the agenda for the #7-Star is Brockville Speedway’s final night of point paying races Saturday, September 5th.  The team will also travel to Cornwall Motor Speedway Sunday, September 6th for a 100 lapper that will not only kick-off the Mr. DIRTcar Series for small block modifieds – but close-out the 2009 edition of the Lucas Oil Canadian Dirt Challenge.  Heading to Cornwall, the ‘Pocket Rocket’ is 5th – and less than 40 away from the lead – in overall tour points.  He leads the Northern Regional standings for 358 modifieds and won the opening round of the Lucas Tour Sunday, May 17th at Cornwall.
