OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY: Friday Night Thunder Season Champs to be crowned this weekend

By Tommy Goudge (September 10, 2009) – The final event of Ohsweken Speedway’s 2009 Friday Night Thunder series takes to the track this Friday night when the Rochester Americans present Season Championships for Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, ESSO Mini-Stocks, and Bombers, plus another visit by the Vintage Cars.

Tom Huppunen is likely to be crowned the second champion of the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division on Friday, but much is left to be determined in the rest of the standings, where battles for position and point fund prizes are ongoing between Kevin Job, Glenn Styres, Ryan Hunsinger, Dave Dykstra, Jamie Collard, Dain Naida, defending champ Keith Dempster, Mikey Kruchka, and Travis Cunningham.  Cunningham also leads the way in the Rookie of the Year battle, which will be decided between Travis, Kevin Loveys, and Jim Huppunen on Friday night.  Invading drivers from the Empire Super Sprints and ASCS Patriots are also expected in action this Friday as they look for one final tune-up at Ohsweken before next week’s Fifth Annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.

Mitchell Brown has dominated the ESSO Mini-Stock division this season and stands to take home the title on Friday night, but other drivers have been visiting victory lane after the feature races lately, including Chase Hess and Abel Castelein who claimed their first wins of 2009 last Friday night.  Kevin Hilborn, Rick Emberson, Castelein, and Mike Evers also have points positions within the top five yet to be decided.

Jesse McDonald and Lee Hils claimed Bomber feature wins last week, but it is Karl Sault on top of the heap in the points standings.  Sault will be crowed champion on Friday night, while Kacey Huffman, McDonald, Team 113, and Team 13c will try to cement their spots in the top five.

The Vintage Cars also join the card this Friday.  Their last visit to Ohsweken produced an interesting story as Illinois brain surgeon Phil Claussen took the feature win in his 60’s era Falcon Modified.

Tickets are on sale now for the Fifth Annual Arrow Express Canadian Sprint Car Nationals, coming up September 17, 18, and 19!  Please visit www.OhswekenSpeedway.com and call 1-888-720-RACE to order yours today!  It was announced recently that the ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini-Stocks, and Bombers will join the Empire Super Sprints tour on Thursday, September 17 for non-points events.
