Seven championship battles on tap at Scotia Speedworld this weekend

(Halifax, NS, September 9, 2009) Scotia Speedworld will play host to eight key races this Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12 as the racing scene in the Maritimes winds down after another incredible season of racing! Friday night the Scotia Speedworld Weekly Racing Series will contest their final races in all six divisions.

Saturday afternoon race fans can return to Scotia Speedworld to see the Maritime League of Legends Tour in their second to last race of the season as well as the final battle of the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour – The Parts for Trucks 200! Speedway 660 hosted great races this past weekend and fans can expect nothing less on Saturday at the 3/10 mile facility located in Enfield, NS. Racing starts at 7pm on Friday with the Main Gates opening at 5:00pm. The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour will get the action started at 1:10pm on Saturday with the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials, followed by the remainder of the day's race action at 2:00pm. Main gates open at 11:00am.

Friday Night – Weekly Racing Series

Of the six races on Friday night, four of them are going to be nail biters and title clenchers for the drivers! The Lockhart Truck Center Hobby Stock Division will likely come down to the Ritchie brothers – Wayne and Gordon. They have just 4 points separating them going into the final race. Gordon Ritchie is driving one of this season's newly allowed ¼ ton trucks in the division. In the Legends Division, Scott MacLean holds a mere three point advantage on Justin MacNeill. Ed Hayden, Matt Moore, and Ray Cox Jr round out the top five and are only 24, 29, and 40 points back from the leader heading into Friday night.

The Sojourn Signs Bandolero Division will also come down to the wire this weekend, with Brad Eddy having a lead of only 7 markers on his closest competitor, DJ Casey! Dylan Blenkhorn and Shelby Baker aren't out of the picture yet either with just 36 and 39 points to make up on Eddy respectively. The C&R Auto Supply Sportsman Division is not to be outdone for a close points battle either! 2008 Division Champion Terry Roma has just eight points on 2008 Rookie of the Year Jeff Dillman before the final green flag of the season drops this weekend and the whole top 7 in the division will be looking to see if they can take down the defending champ.

The other two divisions – Miller Tire Thunder and Lightning – are all but nailed down by 2008 Division Champion Derek MacCallum and 2008 Rookie of the Year Dan Michaud Jr. MacCallum has a 64 point lead on the rest of the Miller Tire Thunder Division and Michaud Jr. has a 48 point lead. However, the battle isn't over until all the drivers cross the stripes on Friday Night!

For a complete breakdown of the points battles and who can still win, stay tuned to www.scotiaspeedworld.ca for this week's edition of Tim's Corner!

Saturday 2:00pm – The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour

After almost 4 months of fighting mother nature and each other for just one more position on the track – the cars and stars of the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour are set to take to the track one last time this summer to determine our 2009 Champion! We've seen great racing all season and this weekend it's going to come down to the last lap of the Parts for Trucks 200 to determine who will take that coveted title as well as a cheque for $10,000! Even though it is possible for the Shawn Tucker (3rd) and John Flemming (4th) to take the crown, they will have to see bad luck for both of the top two drivers in order to do so.

Shawn Turple is your points leader and holds a nice 19 point cushion over Wayne Smith – both of whom call Scotia Speedworld their home track. The point system on the Tour is as follows: the race winner gets 200 points with each following position gaining two less (2nd gets 198 points, 3rd gets 196, 4th gets 194, etc.). If you lead a lap in the feature, you receive five bonus points and should you lead the most laps, you get an additional five point bonus. Since there are many different scenarios it is hard to predict who will end up with all of the glory on Saturday afternoon. You can be guaranteed though that both drivers and their crews will be doing a lot of math in their heads during the 200 laps of Parts for Trucks action!

For a complete breakdown of the points battle please head to www.maritimeprostocktour.com for the latest edition of Tim's Corner.

This will also be the last race of the Parts for Trucks challenge - a contingency program in which drivers accumulate points based on their finishing positions in each of the four Parts for Trucks sponsored events. A cash bonus is paid to the top three Parts for Trucks Challenge points-getters. Smith and Turple sit in the top two positions in this battle with Smith on top by only four markers. Third place is also up for grabs with Greg Proude, Shawn Tucker, and Jonathan Hicken all within nine points of each other!

Also on tap for Saturday is a 50 lap Maritime League of Legends race which will feature NASCAR's JR Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick will also be racing in Friday night's Legends race.
