August 30, 2009. David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons Enclosed Vehicle Transportation/iRacing.com Chevrolet team has suffered a great deal of frustration in their two previous starts in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. For the teams final run of the 2009 season at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal they demonstrated their resilience and had a solid run gaining twelve positions in the process.
Thorndyke and Thorsons EVT Chevy team took to the track for the first practice session in wet conditions and that of course presents an entirely different set of challenges the drivers. The slick conditions would catch Thorndyke out late in the practice session and the EVT Chevrolet would make contact with the concrete wall. “I lost it a bit and we hit the wall” said the driver accepting the blame.
The EVT Chevrolet team would work to repair the body and bumper damage to the car and get ready for qualifying but with conditions now dry Thorndyke would suffer from a lack of horsepower and be forced to start the 100KM feature from the back row. “We’re lacking a bit in horsepower there’s no secret there” said the driver. “We just have to be smart in the race. Here especially some guys don’t finish and if you keep your nose clean you can help yourself” he added.
As the green flag waved under sunny skies Thorndyke looked to immediately improve the position of the #67 EVT Chevrolet while also keeping his car free of trouble. The brakes are the key here and the brakes worked well for us. There were some places where we could work with guys in the corners, being slightly under power hurt us on the straightaway but it was fun” said the driver enthusiastically.
Through the entire twenty three lap race Thorndyke would continue to work carefully through the field and continue to gain positions. “Right to the very end we had plenty of brakes and it was good to have that kind of reliability. It was good for a change to finish, it was good for the whole team” stated the driver. “We gained some spots in the race and really had a lot of fun today to really battle with some guys for position” said the EVT Chevrolet driver.
This event was the final one for David Thorndyke and the EVT Chevrolet team and they now set their sights on 2010. “We have pretty good idea that we’re going to the spec engine, update with the new transmission and clutch package and perhaps some more changes for next season.”
David Thorndyke and the EVT Chevrolet team have now completed their seasons schedule in the NASCAR Canadian Tire series.
