Merrittville Speedway: Three Dog Night on Saturday

From Jim Irvine

Thorold, Ontario (August 13) – If you are a fan of the classic rock band Three Dog Night – you might remember one of their greatest hits - Mama Told Me (Not to Come).

When the Pen Centre are the hosts of Merrittville Speedway's Three Dog Night Event – Saturday August 22nd – Mama will surely tell you to come!

To help their fans get through the dog days of summer, Merrittville Speedway has come with a special offer – when you purchase 2 Grandstand General Admission Tickets – you will get a third for just $5.

When you combine the special 3 for 2 ½  Ticket along with the fact that each ticket has a special offer from Welland's Boston Pizza – topped off with the best family entertainment in Niagara – it's a deal that you can't beat.

While much of the excitement will be provided by all divisions featured in the Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series – the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modifieds, Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen, Hoosier Stocks and the Modern Corporation Open Wheel Lites – two events may provide the most interest.

The Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Triple Crown Series will stage its 3rd and final 20 lap Special of 2009.

Rob Goulding so far has been the Big Dog of the small cars big on excitement.

While leading Matt Deschamps in the season long point battle by just 5 points – the gap stretches to 15 in the Turn 4 Collision Triple Crown Series where the Port Colborne driver has won both of the series events this season.

"It's like no other division we have," relates Bicknell, "GM … Ford … Honda … Volkswagen and others … each brand has their following and they're all in the (4 Cylinder) starting fields every week … the mix creates quite a rivalry amongst the cheering fans in the grandstands as well."

The Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Division offers the entry level racer the same motorsport experience as the other divisions – the thrills and excitement of close competition.

"Like our other classes … the 4 Cylinders too play an equal role in the entertaining spectacle that is dirt track racing," reveals Bicknell, "we're proud of the guys that support the class and the Turn 4 Triple Crown Series."

Pen Centre Night at the races will also feature the return of one of the highlights of each season – the Best Appearing Dog Contest where race teams and even race fans parade their pets around the front-stretch.

"It's probably worth the price of admission alone," Bicknell, "Adam Ferri's dog Wrecker has treated fans to his singing and last year … it was a toss up between dogs owned by the Murrays .. the Brauns and the Lynches and a host of others!"

Prior to the start of the season, the Pen Centre played host to a Race Car Show showcasing the incredible off season efforts of the Race Teams involved.

"Merrittville had a few seasons completed when the Pen was built as an outside strip mall," remarks Bicknell, " and more than ever … look at it today … we are honored to have the chance to showcase our race teams each year."
