David Ostella and the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear return to action this weekend as the series makes a shift to Canada for the 40th Annual Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. The only temporary venue on the calendar, GP3R is the tenth round of fourteen in the 2009 championship and one that has the Canadian teenager eager to begin.
"I'm very excited to be racing at home with two rounds coming in Canada," Ostella said over the weekend while stopping in at the Canadian National Karting Championships. "It's always nice to race in my home country, especially at such a famed event. Trois-Rivières is one of the oldest road courses out there, and for my first time on a street course in a car it's just going to be awesome."
Though it's his first run at Trois-Rivières, it won't be his first car race in Canada as last season Ostella raced in support of the Canadian Grand Prix with the Formula BMW Americas program. This time around it will be a completely new experience, and one that has him on a back foot with his rookie status.
"Returning drivers always have an advantage, and since there are only two sessions before qualifying this weekend I'll need to make sure I'm fully focussed," he said looking forward. "We'll have to make sure there are no problems in practice and maximize the track time we do have. We're coming from our best oval and best road course runs of the season, and the goal this weekend is to better the eighth from Chicago, and keep the positive momentum rolling into Mosport."
Ostella will depart for 'la belle province' midweek. The Star Mazda drivers will have two sessions on Friday, the first from 12:30-1:10 and the second an early evening session running from 5:35-6:15. The only on-track action Saturday will be the single qualifying run beginning at 10:30. Following that will be the Grand Prix, with the drivers lining for a standing start at
