Kawartha Speedway Racers Take Their 'Mega Machines' to the Northumberland YMCA

The 5th Annual Mega Machines and Family Fun Fair will have a high speed feel as Kawartha Speedway drivers Willie Reyns and Bryan Mercer will bring their racecars to be part of the show.  The Thursday, August 20th event at the Northumberland YMCA in Cobourg is a fundraiser for the Y’s Strong Kids campaign.

Willie Reyns, the 2008 track champion in Kawartha Speedway’s thunder car division is locked in a tight three-way battle for top spot in this year’s point’s race.  The first, second and third place runners are tightly bunched and the season championship could very well be decided on the final night of action.  Bryan Mercer is currently just outside of 10th place in the track’s headline late model field.  Both drivers hail from Port Hope, Ontario and are looking forward to the chance to meet some of the young fans and their families.

“I got the chance to meet some of the younger fans when my car was at the Fast and Furious Show and Northumberland Mall in April,” said Reyns.  “They were really impressed by the trophies and loved getting inside the car.  The kids have so many questions and they’re so excited to be close to the racecars, it’s a real treat for us as well.”

“I have 3 kids of my own and they’re really starting to take an interest in the sport,” stated Mercer.  “My father Ron is the crew chief on my car and being at the race track has been part of my family’s weekend tradition for what seems like forever.  I enjoy visiting with the younger fans at the track and think it’s important to do whatever is possible to bring a new generation of people out to see what we’re doing.”

The 5th Annual Mega Machines and Family Fun Fair is scheduled for Thursday, August 20th at the Northumberland YMCA – 339 Elgin Street West in Cobourg and will get underway at 5:30.  For more details, visit www.ymcanorthumberland.com.
