Cornwall Motor Speedway: Banquet report and photos

CORNWALL, ON - The Cornwall Motor Speedway celebrated their 2009 champions on March 21 at the Ramada Inn Hotel in Cornwall. The dirt track racing community was present to commemorate the winning drivers.

Kyle Dingwall was crowned in the Jiffy Auto Service Modified Championship in front of Kayle Robidoux, Carey Terrance, Mitchell Jock and Tim O’Brien completed the top 5. Because of bad weather, the Doiron Engineering Cup award was not given and no drivers were eligible for the rookie of the year award.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Pro-Stock class celebrated Joey Ladouceur who had a terrific 2009 season, Ghislain Valade and Dion Oakes completed the podium. Louie Jackson and George Renaud rounded out the top 5. Michel Desjardins was named rookie of the year. Joey Ladouceur also received the top prize in the Mohawk Racing Parts Pro-Stock Series in front of Pete Stefanski and PJ Peters.

In the Giant Tiger Semi-Pro Class, newcomer Jeff Philips was named the 2009 champion and also received the rookie of the year award, a great way to start his career at Cornwall! Gaetan Amesse and Kevin Fetterly Jr. step up on the podium along with Philips.

Jean-Marc Larose finished on top of the D&A Tractor Sales Mini-Stock class in front of Ronnie Tyo and Frank Colpitts. Cory Winters received the rookie awards.

The always coveted Sheldon Legue Merit Award was given to Pat O’Brien Sr. and his wife Rose, parents of modified stars Pat, Danny and Tim O’Brien. They have been great contributors to the sport and showed great support to Cornwall over the year as the 3 sons have been really successful with a combined win total of over 70 features and 9 championships. The O’Brien’s really deserved this award!

This has put an end to the 2009 season and everyone is looking forward to a memorable 2010 season. Several big shows are on the schedule for next summer including the return of the World of Outlaws Late Models and some very special races for the modifieds with the Canadian Nationals Series and the Big Blocks.
