BROOKLYN, Mich. (March 24, 2010) — Here’s looking at you, Michigan. Michigan International Speedway, a 1,400-acre historic NASCAR racetrack in Southeastern Michigan’s Lenawee and Jackson Counties, will host the inaugural Great Lakes Wine Fest, June 26-27.
This first-ever event of its kind in the state is a partnership between MIS and the Michigan Wine Foundation. The event will feature the tastes and toasts of Michigan wineries, breweries and eateries in a unique setting — a NASCAR racetrack.
“We are really excited to add another great event to our season,” MIS President Roger Curtis said. “We’re known primarily for being a NASCAR racetrack, but our natural beauty and resemblance to a national park and the ‘great escape’ feel our guests have when they’re here make hosting a wine festival a natural extension for us. Once again, we’re proud to be the host venue for a collection of businesses that make the Great Lakes State truly awesome and we look forward to growing this event into one of the largest in the region.”
Award-winning wineries from across the state of Michigan will be on hand showcasing more than 100 varieties of wine including, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and others.
“I am excitedly anticipating the MIS wine fest,” said Liz Berger, president of the Michigan Wine Foundation and Operations Manager at Chateau Chantal Winery in Traverse City, Mich. “This will be a great venue in which to offer the public a taste of all the great wineries and breweries in Michigan. People will be able to meet the wine makers and brewers, learn about our Michigan grown and crafted beverages, and mostly have a great time. Michigan has been lacking a festival that represents the entire state, but this centrally located, top- notch facility will be able to offer an unmatchable summer festival. No one will want to miss this inaugural event!”
Guests may sample wines, beer and food from Michigan vendors, and buy favorite wines by the bottle or case. The festival’s on-site retail store will have select wines available for purchase at the event.
In addition to wine and beer sampling, seminars covering wine, food and other topics of interest will be held throughout the venue. Live entertainment throughout the weekend will also be featured.
Advance one-day tickets are $25; two-day tickets are $45. Each ticket includes $10 worth of tasting tickets per day. Designated driver tickets are $15. This event is for guests 21 and older.
Camping is also available for $40 in the track’s MISCamping.com Infield, or $100 in the MISCamping.com Turn 2 Retreat. Turn 2 camping includes water and electric hookups. Need an RV? A turn-key camping option is available for the wine and brew fest at www.MIScamping.com.
Tickets and details are available at www.GreatLakesWineFest.com or by calling 800-354-1010. Also, please visit our Twitter feed @GLWineFest for information about the wine festival.
