Gatineau, Quebec - It was a night of celebration as Edelweiss Speedway honoured all the champions. Accompanied by their families and friends, the drivers were the stars of the night presented at the R.A Room in Gatineau.
In the modified category, Pierre Dagenais won the championship, he took the opportunity to thanks is sponsors and team. Eric Gauvreau who won 5 features in 2009 and his brother Denis who, was also named the rookie of the year, completed the podium. Bobby Herrington and Philippe Landry finished respectively fourth and fifth. Eric Gauvreau won the Fondations BRL mini-series in front of Pierre Dagenais and Dan Jalbert.
In the Semi-Pro category, Mark Trudeau won his first champion`s trophy, Nico Leblanc and Alexandre Gagnon completed the podium. In the Toitures Marcel Raymond series, Trudeau completed the sweep followed by Leblanc and Bruno Boivin completed the podium. Steve Gagné won the rookie award.
Dean Pronovost took his second title in a row in the Mod-Lite class, Dave Bell and Richard Renaud completed the top 3. Renaud collected the rookie of the year award with his 3rd place overall.
Gabriel Mercier was the champion in the 4-cylinder category in front of Martin Lagacé and Jean-Marc Larose.
The president cup was given to Gilles Chamberland for his long time service at Edelweiss. Chamberland takes care of the speedway surface and takes great pride in his work. The track is considered as one of the smoothest in Quebec and Ontario.
This banquet ends the 2009 season, with only 3 weeks left before the beginning of the season. People that want to get a sneak peek of 2010, Edelweiss will be present next weekend from April 30th to May 2nd at the Promenades de l'Outaouais Mall with 6 cars in showcase. The week-end after, a few cars will be in attendance at the Galeries d'Aylmer shopping centre from May 6th to 8th. An information booth will be available at each car show with special draws and information.
