Jason White, in his #21 A&W car, captured his first Top Ten finish in his first race of the season, Saturday at the Autodrome St. Eustache, Quebec, recording a 7th place finish in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series' Tufoil 250.
“St. Eutache has never been a track that I have done well on.” Jason said in his post race remarks. And, the way things went earlier in the day, it looked like the Quebec track was not going to be good to him again this year. The possibility of a top ten finish in his first race of the season did not seem likely, hours before the flag dropped to signal the beginning of the race.
After fifteen practice laps, Jason’s A&W #21 car experienced mechanical difficulties when he blew a header gasket.
But, #21 A&W crew went to work and by the qualifying heat, Jason was ready go.
Starting the race in the #15 spot, White began the task of working his way to the front of the pack.
For 30 to 40 laps Jason battled four other drivers in a lead group of 5 cars. White led the pack for laps 135 thru 138. But, at his last pit stop, the crew had trouble with two seized lug nuts. By the time this problem had been corrected the A&W #21 car had lost a lap to the lead group.
Jason left the pit, driving hard to reclaim his position in the lead group. Another “Caution” flag slowed White’s quest for first. But when the “Caution” was lifted White roared towards the lead, finishing seventh behind Dave Whitlock who captured the race.
White’s first “Top Ten” finish of the year in his first race of the season left the Western Canadian driver from Sun Peaks ecstatic about the possibilities for the rest of the season.
“When you consider the adversity we faced, and beat, today, you just gotta know that we are ready to rock and roll this year, like never before!”
*The Coca-Cola “Move Of The Race” Award is given to the driver who advanced the most positions from the start of the race to the finish. Jason started 15th and finished 7th. A&W is Canada's original hamburger quick service restaurant chain, and today is one of its fastest growing. The first A&W drive-in restaurant in Canada opened on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg in 1956. The combination of great tasting burgers, onion rings and frosted mugs of famous A&W Root Beer® served by friendly carhops was an instant hit. Since then, A&W has continued to grow and evolve with the times, expanding into over 700 locations from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. At the heart of that growth is the fact that, while so much of our world has changed, the simple things that made A&W so popular in its early days are the same today. We still serve A&W Root Beer in frosted mugs. Our onion rings are made fresh from whole onions every day. With a rich history behind us, we look forward to an even more exciting future ahead of us. A&W continues to expand all across Canada, with particular emphasis on Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic provinces. For further information go to: www.aw.ca
