Kerry Micks takes second in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Opener

ST. EUSTACHE, QUEBEC (May 23, 2009) – Kerry Micks has started off the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in fine fashion at Autodrome St. Eustache. Driver of the Micks Motorsports Beyond Digital Imagining (BDI) Ford Fusion, Micks, of Mount Albert, Ontario, finished the Tufoil 250 in second place to start his third season in the national stock car series.

“It was a good drive,” said Micks after the race. “The car was working very well. With the new engine, there have been a lot of changes on the car, but it’s come together very well.”

The Micks Fusion is powered by a Wegner Engineering Spec Engine, and the team has had a learning curve to climb since installing the engine, but Micks said overall he was very pleased with the team’s performance.

“We had a great weekend, and the engine was right there,” he continued. “And I want to thank my crew. They all performed admirably and I’m very pleased with them.”

Starting in seventh spot in the 19-car field, Micks chased eventual winner Dave Whitlock of Petrolia, Ontario in the final stages of the 259-lap event, and drove across the finish line just .244-seconds behind the victor.

Micks was in command at the half-way mark, getting by Andrew Ranger to take the point, and led from laps 87 to 113. Although penalized a lap for a pit stop infraction, and getting spun later in the event, Micks was able to drive around these obstacles to his podium finish. After the opening race in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Micks is second in the Championship point standings.
