Delaware Speedway Insider: WHELEN ENGINEERING NIGHT
Race Date: May 15, 2009 & May 16, 2009

Mother Nature Doesn't Dampen Delaware's Drive

While Mother Nature has prevented Delaware Speedway from dropping a checker flag on any weekly division feature races so far this season, it has not dampened spirits at Delaware Speedway! Fans, drivers and officials have never been so energized about programs at the speedway. This weekend, officials plan to hit the ground running again with an exciting line-up of racing that features Canada’s finest weekly racing program on Friday, and the Transmission Direct Enduro and Ultimate Sandblasting and Coating Chaos Cars on Saturday afternoon.

Fans have a lot to be excited about this Friday night. The historic speedway renovation project has continued aggressively throughout the rainouts. This week fans will get their chance to see the latest round of upgrades. The first of which is the first use of the racetrack since the historic repaving project began this past Saturday. The initial repave has seen large sections of the speedway replaced with new asphalt. The second is the highly anticipated activation of the new sound system at the track.

The line-up for the evening itself aims to finish races already begun in the rain, and to run races already scheduled to be run that night.

With the rainfall putting a stop to the racing program last week, the APC Late Model division sits frozen four laps into a great race. Thirty drivers descended on Delaware Speedway to run in the opener for the first stage of the J.B.M. Auto Leasing Triple Crown. This race will be completed first thing Friday night at 8:00 pm. The APC Late Models will see further action in the evening when their field runs their originally scheduled 35-lap feature race. The field will be set based the finish of the J.B.M. Auto Leasing Triple crown race with an eight car inversion plus the roll of one dice.

The POWERADE Open-Wheel Modifieds will also be hitting the track on Friday. Last week before the rain came, the division completed qualifying for a 25-lap feature race. This race will be run second on the evening. Later in the program they will run their originally scheduled 25-lap event lined up based on a two-dice inversion of the finish of the first race.

The Delaware Super Stocks have not yet had a race event this season. They will be running heats and a 25-lap feature race. Their rained out program for opening night will be filled later in the season.

The entire evening finishes with a Throne King’s of the Hill Spectator race. The event is for street legal, street driven vehicles to compete in one-on-one drag races around the half-mile speedway. The winner of the event will be receiving a $500 prize. Don’t forget to bring a helmet and proof of ownership and remember; only the first 40 cars will be accepted, so register early!

Gates open at 6:00 pm, racing gets underway at 8:00 pm. The wildly popular “toonie hotdog” deal will be in place from 6:00-7:00 pm. Be sure to arrive early and pick out your favourite seat and take advantage of this offer. On Saturday gates for the Transmission Direct Enduro and Ultimate Sandblasting and Coating Chaos Cars open at 1:00 pm, racing starts at 2:00 pm.

What about my rainout ticket from last week???

The speedway has elected to allow those rainout tickets to be used at full value - - this means that you can redeem that ticket at the front gate for a new one this week! Don't forget to take a moment to review the track's rainout policy. It's a great night to bring someone new to experience the NEW Delaware Speedway!

Still loving those new hotdogs...

Toonie hotdogs will be available through the main concession stand from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm! Arrive early, find your favourite spot on the hill and head over to the new concession stand and try our brand new hotdogs!

So what is new this week in the renovation?
New pavement, new sounds system, new ticket system!
This week is the debut of several more renovation improvements! As well as the obvious fresh pavement, fans will be experiencing two additonal exciting upgrades: the new sound system and new ticketing system! Click here to see new photos from the renovation! (Caution, large photos)
