NCATS: Strong Start for Hathaway in Snap-on Tools Dodge at St Eustache

St Eustache, Quebec- NASCAR Canadian Tire Series driver Jason Hathaway from Appin, Ontario posted a strong start to the season behind the wheel of the #3 Team 3 Red Snap-on Tools Dodge  this past Saturday night in the Trufoil 250 at Autodrome St Eustache just outside of Montreal, Quebec.

The day got off to a solid start with a moderate showing in practice.  An early qualifying draw position and a changing race track brought a 14th place qualifying effort for the 250 lap event.

“This is a pretty crazy racetrack and things happen pretty quickly out there.” driver Jason Hathaway volunteered.  “You have to stay on your game all race long and we have some work ahead of us tonight.”

Starting back in the pack, newly name Team 3 Red/EHR Crew Chief TJ Martino’s goal was to make the right decisions on the adjustments of the car to get his driver to the front of the pack and into contention.  By lap 50, Hathaway had taken his Dodge up into the 9th position.  Martino brought the race machine into the pits to the attention of the crew on lap 71 for left side tires followed by a second stop for fuel.

After getting caught up in a spun just after the half way point the Team was held for one lap in the pits to serve a penalty for pitting too early.  Once back on the track team Spotter Ray Doucette helped Hathaway to work his way back up through the pack and toward the front as TJ Martino adjusted on the car.

As the laps wound down in the race a late race spin involving a number of cars mixed up the running order and Hathaway made his way through with minor right side damage.  The race finished under green, white, checker conditions earning the Team’s first top 10 of the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tires Series schedule.

“It was a pretty busy night out there on the track.  We made some adjustments to the car throughout the race and it got better as the race went on.  Our penalty in the pits was the only thing holding us back and we were racing to get back on the lead lap late in the race. I am really proud of this team tonight and TJ and Ray made some great calls throughout the night.” said a hot and tired Hathaway after the race.

The next event on the Team 3 Red/EHR schedule will take Hathaway and his Team back to his home track, Delaware Speedway near London, Ontario, on June 6th where he has won countless late model features and broken track records.

Team 3 Red/EHR is partnered with Snap-on Tools, Vortex Brake Pads, Ted Reader’s World Famous BBQ, Advantex Freight Forwarders, Castrol, Fast Eddie Racewear, Dayco Belts & Hoses, Choko Motorsport Apparel and Praxair.
