NCATS: Steckly Takes Pole & Comes Back to Finish Fourth

St. Eustache, Quebec, Sunday May 24, 2009:  Reigning NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Scott Steckly started off the new season as planned by sitting on the pole for the Tufoil 250 at Autodrome St. Eustache.  After leading the 250 laps event early, then battling adversity midway through the race the team bounced back to bring the No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge Avenger across the finish line in fourth.

Steckly, sporting new sponsor Canadian Tire colours in 2009 set quick time during the mid day qualifying session and he would go on to lead the first 44 laps of the 250 lap event.  Difficulty started for the Steckly team when attempting to pit early for fuel and tires, they were partially blocked from entering their pit stall by another competitor.  A one lap penalty ensued for pitting out of their pit box.

The Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box team knew there would be more cautions and a “lucky dog” opportunity could result in getting them back on the lead lap.  On lap 233, Steckly was indeed the beneficiary of the lucky dog rule and was awarded his lap back.  After pitting for tires, Steckly would then attempt to get back to the front.  With less than 15 laps to go a valiant effort was made and the No. 22 Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge Avenger crossed the finish line in fourth.

“If we had of had a few more laps we would have been on the podium for sure,” said Steckly after the race.  “It was a bit frustrating for us early in the night but my guys stayed on track and we just worked hard to get back on the lead lap.  I want to thank Canadian Tire, Tow Truck in a Box and all of our other sponsors; we hope to keep them up front all year long.”
