NCATS: Kennington ready to start the 2009 season

ST. THOMAS, ON - Preparations continue for DJ Kennington and the Castrol Dodge team for the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  And with the progress this team has made they expect to be a force at every race this season and contend for the championship.

The on-track practice day sessions have been very helpful for the #17 Castrol Dodge team and the crew has made progress each time out.  “Our first time out at Delaware Speedway in April was pretty good”, said Kennington.  “We took what we learned back to the shop and made a few more changes to the car and the next week when we returned to the track we made a noticeable leap forward,” he added.

The Castrol Dodge Avenger was also on track last week at Kawartha Speedway and once again showed the consistent performance that every driver wants.  “We turned laps right around the pole qualifying time from last year’s race,” said the driver.  “I think as this season goes on we’ll learn a few more things and be able to find a little bit more speed by the time we get back here for the last race of the season,” he concluded.

Last season Kennington showed great consistency in the #17 Castrol Dodge with nine top-five finishes and eleven top-ten’s.  Kennington not only expects to repeat that kind performance, but also score a victory.  “We just missed out on a few wins last year and we’re determined not to get shut out this year.  That will be the key for us to taking the championship,” said the driver.

DJ Kennington is excited about the new season that’s only days away and proud that his consistent performances last season have also resulted in a new sponsorship association with Mahindra Tractors.  “The people with Mahindra are just fantastic to work with,” said Kennington.  “We had some discussions and very quickly we came to an agreement.  They’ve been very supportive and we look forward to performing well for them along with all of our other great sponsors.”

The 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire series will consist of thirteen events and begins competition on Saturday May 23rd at the Autodrome St. Eustache.  Competition this year will also include events at the Edmonton Indy weekend, the NASCAR weekend in Montreal and new tracks for this season, Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon and Delaware Speedway.  Once again this season each race will be broadcast on TSN.
