Lapcevich brothers race to great Quarter Midget finishes in Indy

GRIMSBY, ON – The Lapcevich brothers scored impressive results in Indiana at last weekend’s quarter midget racing regional event. The prestigious Robbie Stanley Memorial draws quarter midget racing’s top teams, and Cayden and Treyten Lapcevich were up to the challenge.

Ten year old Cayden competed in three divisions during the two-day event scoring a win, a second place finish, and mechanical failure, while six-year-old Treyten qualified first and finished second in one class while failing to finish in a second event. The great results continued a streak of solid performances by the Tim Hortons-sponsored team.

“We really wanted to run well this weekend,” said Cayden. “The Grands will be at the same track this summer. We should be ready.”

Quarter midget racing’s biggest events are known as “Grands”. Three Grands are held every year – Eastern Grands, Westeran Grands, and Dirt Grands – which are held on a dirt oval as opposed to asphalt. The 2010 Eastern Grands will be held in Indianapolis on the same Mini Indy track where the Lapceviches scored great results.

“I’m excited about the weekend,” said a proud crew chief and father Jeff Lapcevich. “The boys raced really well.”

Cayden nearly scored three top-two finishes, but engine failure ended his day in the Lite A division while he led the main event.

Racing is in the blood for the Lapcevich family. Jeff Lapcevich competes on the NASCAR Canadian Tire series while the boys’ grandfather Joe Lapcevich raced locally in Ontario.

Quarter midget racing is a proving ground for some of today’s top NASCAR stars. Drivers like Jeff Gordon and Joey Logano honed their skills behind the wheel of scaled down sprint cars.
