Stellar start to Seibert’s racing season; Williams Lake, BC, standout scores pair of top 10 finishes

May 2, 2010, WILLIAMS LAKE, BC – Ryley Seibert earned a pair of top 10 finishes at Motoplex Speedway Saturday night to open his 2010 season. The speedway near Vernon, BC, hosted street stock racing and the ARCA West series, and Seibert competed in both events.
The young standout’s seventh place finish in the ARCA West series and fifth place result in the street stock was an impressive way to start the year.
“Overall I’m really pleased with our result tonight,” said Seibert. “I passed a lot of cars on the track, and considering the obstacles we faced I’m excited about the rest of the season.”
Challenges faced Seibert in both events on Saturday, and while some of them were expected others came as a shock. Rules in the ARCA West series mandate that every driver must qualify for the event, but rookies are required to start at the back of the event. After setting the fourth fastest time in ARCA West qualifying Seibert would start 21st as a result.
The unexpected challenge came in the street stock division. A shortage of new tires at the track forced Seibert to compete on old tires, and he says it may have cost him a victory.
“I felt great about our chances in the street stock,” said Seibert. “We practiced on old tires, and we were among the fastest cars. When I learned we would have to race on the old tires as well I was frustrated, but we made the best of it.”
Disappointment from Seibert’s 12th place qualifying effort in the street stock was short-lived because he charged through the field to score his fifth place result. The road ahead in the ARCA West feature was more daunting with a 12th row starting spot.
“I couldn’t believe how great the car felt in the ARCA race,” said Seibert. “The plan was to be patient, but it was hard to do because the car was so fast.”
Seibert charged through the field into the top five, but mechanical trouble with less than five laps to go caused the car to slow resulting in a seventh place finish. Despite the setback Seibert was thrilled with his ARCA debut.
“It didn’t take long to get comfortable in the faster ARCA cars, and it was so fast that I can’t wait to get my next opportunity.”
Seibert races next on May 15th at Motoplex Speedway in his street stock. To hear more about Seibert’s weekend go to www.racetimeradio.com where Ryley is a featured guest on Monday, May 3rd, ad 8 p.m. EST.
