Scotia Speedworld Making Changes to Improve Fan Experience

(May 12, 2009, Halifax, NS) – As Scotia Speedworld prepares for the 2009 season, organizers have made sure to keep the fans at the forefront. Last year fans saw over a half million dollars worth of upgrades to the facility, and this year fans can expect to see further improvements. Fans will also notice changes to the Friday night Weekly Racing Series schedule, which should provide more racing excitement and enhance the overall fan experience.

Scotia Speedworld’s Weekly Racing Series hosts six different divisions of racecars. This season only five of the six divisions will run each week. Each week one division will rotate and take a much needed week off. The exception to this new ‘five division per week’ schedule will be the Season Opening and Season Finale events, in which all six divisions will participate.

Start time for the Weekly Racing Series has changed from 7:30 pm to 7:00 pm for the 09 season. The changes to the schedule have been implemented to provide fans and drivers the opportunity to take in all of the racing action each night and still be out of the venue at a reasonable hour. “We understand that fans don’t want to watch a five hour show, hopefully the changes we’ve made for the upcoming season will keep the show compact and jammed with action on the track,” commented Scotia Speedworld Race Director, Rob Bowness.

The Weekly Racing Series Season Opener will be held on a special day and time this year. The Bandoleros, Miller Tire Thunders & Lightnings, Lockhart Truck Centre Hobby Stocks, Legends, and C&R Auto Supply Sportsman cars, will race for the first time on May 30th at 2:00 pm – a special Saturday show! With evenings in May being chilly, fans will be able to enjoy the first week of racing in the afternoon while the temperature is still comfortable.

Scotia Speedworld has numerous special events lined up again this summer! Fan favourite Monster Jam will return on June 6th and 7th for three shows. Grave Digger, Backdraft, Eradicator and several of their monstrous friends will invade Scotia Speedworld with one mission – DESTRUCTION! Saturday fans can catch a 1:00 pm or 7:00 pm show, new this year is a Sunday matinee set for 1:00 pm. The popular Pit Party, where fans have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the trucks and drivers, will take place on Saturday between 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. Tickets for Monster Jam are on sale now at all Ticket Atlantic locations.

The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour recently announced four visits to Scotia Speedworld. The Lucas Oil 100 on May 23rd, the Forbes Chevrolet 100 on July 4th, and the Parts for Trucks 200 on September 12th. On August 7th & 8th the best drivers from the Maritimes and abroad will battle it out for the prestigious Atlantic CAT 250 title. Tickets for all CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour events are available at the gate on race day. Advance tickets are on sale now at all Ticket Atlantic locations.
