David Ostella returns to New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend when the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear contests rounds four and five. Taking top billing as the feature event at the New Jersey Grand Prix, David and the Star Mazda drivers will enjoy an incredible amount of track time on a layout Ostella enjoyed last year in its debut season.
“I was at New Jersey Motorsports Park last season when the track was brand new,” Ostella said prior to his departure Wednesday. “The track was awesome, even though it was still surrounded by dirt at the time, but hopefully that’s gone and the people are ready for an incredible Mazda show.”
After three promoter test sessions on Thursday, Friday brings two Official Sessions before qualifying for race one of the weekend closes the daily schedule for the Star Mazda cars. Round four will be contested Saturday, broadcast live on HDNet, and the weekend will close with a Sunday morning qualifying session for round five and the second race in a doubleheader at 2pm.
“I’m so excited about having so much track time this weekend,” Ostella said of the weekend lineup. “It gives me more time to learn the track and a doubleheader just makes it that much more exciting. I just can’t wait to get trackside and get things underway.”
Three races into his first season of Star Mazda, Ostella is enjoying both the cars and the championship. “The Mazda to me is awesome and once I jumped into it I knew it was going to be good,” he said. “The season so far has been great, and working through ups-and-downs through three rounds we have gotten a lot of different racing situations figured out. That’s really satisfying, and it just makes me look forward to the next event all the time.”
