Scotia Speedworld Hosts Double Header Weekend

(Halifax, NS, June 30, 2009) This weekend, Scotia Speedworld is recognizing the end of another school year for many children around the Maritimes with a racing double header. On Friday night, July 3rd, the Scotia Speedworld Weekly Racing Series will host four of its divisions on Report Card Night. The next day the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is back at the 3/10 mile oval for their second of only four visits this season for the Forbes Chevrolet 100.

When the gates open on Friday night at Scotia Speedworld, the first 200 students who produce this year’s passing report card will receive a free Z103.5 t-shirt! Fans can expect exciting racing action from the Miller Tire Thunder and Lightning Divisions, the Lockhart Truck Center Hobby Stock Division, and the Legends Divisions. The green flag is set to drop at 7:00pm with the main gates opening at 5:00pm and the Strictly Hydraulics Pit Area opening at 4:00pm.

If that wasn’t enough for the lucky students starting a two month break from the books, the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is back in Halifax on Saturday, July 4th and one lucky fan will walk away with a VIP Package to the Atlantic CAT 250 weekend! Having not raced in a month due to the unpredictable weather, the big boys are itching to get back behind the wheels of their 500-horse power engined cars! For the fans, this translates to door handle-to-door handle action for each of the 100 laps of the Forbes Chevrolet 100. Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials are set to begin at 5:10pm, followed by the Dartmouth Dodge Dash for Cash. Feature racing gets underway at 6:00pm.

Thirty of the Maritimes’ best drivers are expected to unload in the Strictly Hydraulics Pit Area on Saturday afternoon including 2008’s Forbes Chevrolet 100 and CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Champion, the Oval Outlaw – Wayne Smith. This same race last year marked the beginning of Wayne Smith’s rally to the top of the Championship Point Standings while winning a total of three races as well as the Most Laps Led Award. (344 laps)

Saturday’s event will also feature the Maritime League of Legends Tour with a fifty lap feature.
