Bowmanville, ON, Sunday June 14, 2009: The No. 39 Dickies/NMT Dodge Avenger of Dave Whitlock qualified well for the Dickies 200, event number three in the thirteen race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series but a little over half way into the 51 lap event Whitlock’s motor expired and he was relegated to a 19th place finish.
Whitlock started the weekend on Saturday morning with practice speeds in the top ten. Qualifying would follow Saturday afternoon and the No. 39 Dickies team posted the seventh quickest time. “We had a vibration in the first practice so that put us behind a bit.” said Whitlock. “My team got that fixed and I am very pleased with our qualifying effort today.”
The Dickies 200 weekend at Mosport International Raceway is a big event for the entire Whitlock Motorsports No. 39 Dickies Dodge Avenger team. This is the third year that Williamson-Dickies Canada Co. have sponsored this event at Mosport International Raceway and they again brought out a large contingent of employees, their family members, contest winners and guests to cheer on Dave and his team.
Whitlock took the green flag on Sunday afternoon in row four on the inside a spot he maintained for the first few circuits of the 4 km, 10 turn course. After a lengthy red flag interval due to a hard crash by Netherlands driver Joey Hanssen, Whitlock brought his car to pit road for four tires and fuel. The Dickies Dodge Avenger driver was steadily moving back up in the field when the engine expired on lap 30. “First off I want to thank Dickies and all their guests for coming out and spending some time with us today,” said a disappointed Whitlock. “I really hate the fact that we were not able to give the DICKIES folks a solid finish in their sponsored event. But unfortunately our engine decided otherwise! It is a disappointing part of our sport when mechanical failure takes you put of contention.”
Finish: 1. No. 27 Andrew Ranger 2. No. 95 Anthony Simone 3. No. 84 J. R. Fitzpatrick 4. No. 17 D. J. Kennington 5. No. 60 Ron Beauchamp Jr. 19. No. 39 Dave Whitlock.
Next up for Dave and his Dickies/NMT/Prostate Cancer Canada/POINTTS team is a return to the track of their first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series win, Autodrome St. Eustache on July 11th.
The Dickies 200 will be aired on TSN on Sunday June 28th at 11:30 a.m. EST. Check your local listings for more details.
