June 14, 2009- Bowmanville, Ontario- Jason Hathaway and the #3 Snap-on Tools Dodge came away with the Teams’ second top 10 of the 2009 season on the 4 kilometer road course at Mosport International Speedway Sunday afternoon.
Practice for the Team went well on Saturday morning and the Team worked to tweak the car for Saturday afternoon qualifying. In qualifying Hathaway found his rhythm and qualified an impressive 10th in the field of 24 cars.
Sunday brought clear and sunny skies with hopes of a perfect day for racing. A few laps after the green flag dropped on the 51 lap event, Hathaway reported into his crew that he had lost the power steering in his race machine. Crew Chief TJ Martino and the Team 3 Red/ EHR crew brought him down pit road, fixed the power steering and sent Hathaway out in 23rd and the last car on the lead lap of the race to work his way back up through the pack.
With the spotting assistance of renowned road course racer and Toronto native Ludwick Heimrath, Hathaway worked the course and brought his Dodge up the running order. At the half way point Hathaway was leading the race and earned 5 bonus points for doing so.
Tire and fuel pit stops cycled through the field after the half way point and the Team decided to work some strategy and take fuel only in their green flag pit stop. This allowed Hathaway to stay out on the lead lap and hold onto valuable track position. The #3 Snap-on Tools Dodge finished 8th on the day and made a significant jump in the point standings from 12th to 9th place.
Hathaway was happy with the Team’s day. “This was a good way to come back from our disappointment at Delaware last weekend. It was hard work to keep the car turning on this 9 turn course without the power steering not working 100%, but we made it through. We are happy with the finish today and it was a good points day for us in the standings.”
The Team will take a few weeks off before running 4 weekends in a row starting at Autodrome St Eustache near Montreal on July 11, 2009.
Team 3 Red/EHR is partnered with Snap-on Tools, Vortex Brake Pads, Napoleon Grills and Fireplaces, Ted Reader’s Famous BBQ, Advantex Freight Forwarders, Castrol, Fast Eddie Racewear, Dayco Belts & Hoses, Choko Motorsport Apparel and Praxair.
