New England's Pro All Stars Series Hits Speedway 660

Fredericton, NB - After a great turnout last weekend for the DQ Kids Day + District Challenge event, this weekend will be as good, if not a better fan turnout. This weekend Speedway 660 will host the first double header weekend of the 2009 racing season.

Saturday June 13th under the lights, race fans will get to see a full card of racing.  There will be regular points racing in the Coast Tire Street Stock, and Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman divisions as well as the 1st touring event of their year. The Pro All Star Series will make their return to Speedway 660 for 200 laps of action packed excitement.  This is a chance for fans to see some of the best drivers in the Northeast go toe to toe in the Geary woods.  The event will be the Pro All Star Series only Canadian stop on their 2009 schedule.

Some of the drivers expected to make the trip to Speedway 660 for the Pro All Star Series 200 include, two time Oxford 250 Champion Ben Rowe of Turner, Maine, Cassius Clark from Farmington, Maine, Belfast, Maine’s Travis Benjamin who was at Speedway 660 competing in the first ‘Best of the Best’ race of the series just a couple weeks ago. Also expected to be there is 2007 Peterbilt 250 Champion, Hallowell, Maine’s Johnny Clark.

As well, we will see some familiar faces like Kirk Thibeau of Presque Isle, Maine and Lonnie Sommerville from Saint John, New Brunswick.  Both have had a lot of success throughout the years competing at Speedway 660.  Kirk Thibeau was the winner of the 2001 Peterbilt 250.  Lonnie Sommerville comes to us as a veteran driver of the speedway and has raced in multiple divisions throughout his racing career. Sommerville has an impressive racing schedule this year in many different divisions throughout Canada and the United States.

Sommerville is a past winner of the Peterbilt 250, in 2006, and is racing fulltime in the Maritime Pro Stock tour, that travels throughout the Maritimes. In 2007, he took top honours, as Rookie of the Year, in the Maritime Pro Stock Tour and followed it with a runner-up position in the points.  The field of cars that will be on hand for the Pro All Stars Series will certainly be exciting.

Aside from the full card of racing on Saturday night, there will be the first of four Enduro races of the season. Many drivers will be there on Sunday to try and take the top spot in the points away from last year’s points champion Ed Vallis.  Finishing second and third in a very close points battle was Steve Seveck and Todd Leclair. This event will be a 200-lap race.
