Brighton Speeway - HANDLEY TAKES FIRST CHECKER

The 2008 Brighton Automotive Pro Stock Division Champion, Kraig Handley of Picton, took home his first Feature Win ever at Brighton Speedway on Saturday, June 6th. Taking the Championship at the end of 2008 was an accomplishment for the consistent rookie, because he never made a trip to Victory Lane. Making that inaugural visit, after more than a year on the 1/3 mile clay oval brought the standing room only crowd to it’s feet, especially since it was a double win night after he took his heat race too.

“It really is a great thing to watch drivers meet with success. The passion they have for the sport is obvious to anyone who is in contact with them. It is especially awesome when it is a driver like Handley. He is here week in and week out, taking care of his car (2009 Best Appearing Pro Stock), maintaining his line on the track and finishing consistently enough each week, to take home the Championship without a checker. This is a guy who has worked hard for the spotlight, and deserves it this week,” said Speedway Pit Director Brenda Whitehead, after announcing Handley’s recognition as the June 6th Campbellford Chrysler Driver if the Week.

Also deserving of recognition for success in the Vanderlaan’s Building Supplies presentation of the Holiday Inn SOS Sprint Cars, are Kyle Sopaz of Brighton, in his #12 Bill’s Johns Comp 4, Sean Johnson,of Wolfe Island, in his #15 Picture This Sign and Design Pure Stock and Andy Fletcher, of Brighton in his #42 Quinte Towing Stinger. The rained out Pure Stock Feature from May 30th, was won by Rookie Nathan Bosma, who joins Handley as a first time flag waver.

Definitely not a first timer to Brighton’s Victory Lane is the “Oshweken Flyer”, #0 Glenn Styres, with the Southern Ontario Sprints. In the third round of the SOS Season, Styres has taken his second win at Brighton, and is the current points leader in their series, which returns to Brighton on July 11th.

The next race event is the Lange & Fetter Motors presentation of the Leon’s Furniture, Trenton School Bus Races. The schedule also includes the Brighton Speedway FAB FOUR and Spectator One on One Racing. Adding to the jam packed program is the That 70's Show Theme Night , encouraging everyone to come to the races in their best 70’s look, and includes prizes for the Best Dressed Adult and Child Fan, Official, Driver & Crew Member. Green Flag flies at 7pm, admission gates open at 5:30pm. For more information on this and other racing events please visit http://www.brightonspeedway.com/.
