HATHAWAY HOMECOMING AT DELAWARE SPEEDWAY HOPES DASHED BY ENGINE FAILURE

June 7, 2009- Delaware, Ontario- Jason Hathaway and Team 3 Red/E H R’s hopes for a triumphant homecoming to Delaware Speedway on Saturday night were dashed early in the night when the engine in the #3 Snap on Tools Dodge expired.

This event was to be the first time Hathaway had raced the track in a NASCAR Canadian Tire Series car since joining Team 3 Red/E H R and running the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. It was at this track that Hathaway had won countless features in the beginning of his career and broke numerous track records. With this kind of history and success the Team had high hopes of a great weekend when they got to the track on Saturday morning for the 200 lap race.

In practice the Team was in top form recording consistent laps and was the top of the speed charts most of the day. Hathaway had a great qualifying effort recording the Team’s best start yet in the 2009 season of 5th in the 21 car field.

In the main event the quick pace of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series got underway as soon as the green flagged dropped. Hathaway set up and moved around the 4th place car in the field and settled into a consistent rhythm, hitting his marks and running excellent lap times.

Crew Chief TJ Martino called Hathaway in on lap 63 under caution for left side tires and to top up the fuel anticipating some green flag running ahead. The Team performed well on their pit stop and sent him back out onto the track in the 16th spot. By lap 76 Hathaway had made his way carefully back up through the pack and was running 12th.

It was on lap 80 when Hathaway and the Team’s hopes of an excellent finish came to a grinding halt. Hathaway reported into the crew that had lost power and was coming into the pits. The Team went under the hood of the car and determined that the motor had expired and were forced to call it a night.

A dejected Jason Hathaway reluctantly climbed out of his racing machine. “This is a real disappointment for the #3 Snap on Tools team. We were looking forward to putting on a great show for our sponsors, our fans and most of all our Team. The guys on this team worked hard all winter and each and every week to get here and this not the way we wanted to leave the track tonight. We had a great car and this was definitely our night to win.”

This coming weekend, June 13th & 14th, the Team will be at Mosport International Raceway for their first of four road course events on the 2009 NCTS schedule.

Team 3 Red/EHR is partnered with Snap-on Tools, Vortex Brake Pads, Napoleon Grills and Fireplaces Advantex Freight Forwarders, Castrol, Fast Eddie Racewear, Dayco Belts & Hoses, Choko Motorsport Apparel and Praxair.
