STECKLY SUCCUMBS TO ENGINE FAILURE AT MOSPORT

Bowmanville ON, Sunday June 14, 2009: Scott Steckly for the second race in a row qualified second quickest to start on the front row but this time disappointment followed as the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge Avenger succumbed to engine failure on lap 21 of the 51 lap race.

Steckly as usual was right up top of the practice charts in the first practice early on Saturday morning. A broken wheel part would keep them from participating in the second practice session but it didn’t turn out to have any ill effects on the team as they qualified just 2/10ths of a second slower than pole sitter Andrew Ranger.

The start of the Dickies 200 on Sunday would have Steckly put his Canadian Tire Avenger on the back bumper of Ranger’s car for the early laps. Steckly attempted a pass on Ranger on the long Andretti straightway on lap four but Ranger was able to wrestle the lead back a short time later. No to be deterred Steckly stayed with the lead cars until pit stops on lap 18. With four fresh tires and fuel the No. 22 Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box Dodge Avenger driver was ready to charge to the front when a short three laps later they experienced engine failure. A twentieth place finish was recorded. “The car was really good all day,” stated Steckly. “All weekend really. After pitting for tires and fuel we ran our best lap of the weekend, so we were confident about getting back to the front once all the pit stops cycled through. I am really disappointed for all of our sponsors.”

Andrew Ranger won from the pole with No. 95 Anthony Simone finishing a career best second and J. R. Fitzpatrick rounding out the top three.

The driver of the No.40 car, Joey Hanssen from the Netherlands experienced a very hard hit in turn eight which resulted in an extended red flag period while they extricated him from the car on lap ten.

Steckly and his No. 22 Racing team now get three weeks off before returning to Autodrome St. Eustache for event number four of the thirteen race NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule on Saturday July 11th.

The No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire/Tow Truck in a Box team are also sponsored by the following associate and product sponsors: Motomaster, Exide, Mobil Super, Erb Transport, AW Millwrights, Marks Work Warehouse and Reefer Sales.

The Dickies 200 from Mosport International Raceway will be televised on TSN on Sunday June 28th at 11:30 a.m. EST. Check local listings for more details.
