June 16, 2009. David Thorndyke and the #67 Thorsons Enclosed Vehicle Transportation/iRacing.com Chevrolet team were excited to be participating in their first event of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season at Mosport International Raceway this past weekend. Unfortunately it would be a short day for the #67 Chevy team as mechanical misfortune ended their afternoon early.
Thorndyke took to the 2.5 mile road course track first on Saturday for practice and qualifying. The EVT/iRacing.com Chevrolet team had been testing for a couple of sessions prior to the weekend and showed promise. “We didn’t spend money for new tires we just wanted to check out the work we had done in the off season and the car was definitely better this year.
The team’s sessions were marred by oil pump problems and they also discovered to be only running on seven of the eight cylinders and were relegated to the twenty third starting position.
Even prior to the green flag for the 200KM main event on Sunday Thorndyke began to notice that the EVT/iRacing.com Chevrolet was beginning to run a little hot at the end of the pace laps, but the oil pressure and temperature were okay. “I thought we were going to be alright. The car was actually running really well once the green came out and we got going, but then it started smoking really bad”.
Thorndyke was forced to bring the #67 EVT/iRacing.com Chevrolet to pit road and the attention of the team who quickly determined their day was finished early. “I think the problems are deeper than the oil pump” said Thorndyke afterwards. It’s disappointing but we’ve got some time before our next race. Probably not tomorrow but the day after that, we’ll start getting to the bottom of this problem. I feel bad to start out this way with our new association with iRacing.com we certainly hoped for a better result, but we’ll get to the bottom of this”.
David Thorndyke and the EVT Chevrolet team will next take to the track the weekend of August 14-16th at the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres. The race will also be broadcast on TSN.
